How to Edit a Recipe

Use the Edit Recipe page to update a saved recipe’s content, image, servings, tags, ingredients, and instructions. This keeps your library accurate and makes re-analysis reliable.

Note: Making changes to Servings or Ingredients will require re-analysis to refresh nutrition values and the label.

Open the editor

  1. Go to My Recipes and click a recipe to open it.
  2. Click Edit Recipe.
  3. You’ll see two tabs: Edit Recipe and Edit Nutrition Information (nutrition is covered in a separate article).

Edit Recipe Tab — Sections & What They Do

These controls change the content of your recipe.

Recipe Title

Give your recipe a clear, searchable name. This is shown on cards and in My Recipes.

Recipe Description

Optional short summary (what it is, flavor profile, key notes). Helps when scanning your library.

Servings

Set the number of servings your ingredient list is based on.

  • Auto-scale: Ingredient amounts will auto-scale when you change servings.
  • Re-analysis required: Changing servings or ingredients triggers re-analysis.

Category

Assign a category to group similar recipes. Useful for filtering in My Recipes.

Tags

Add comma-separated tags (e.g., vegetarian, weeknight, high-protein). Tags make filtering and search faster later.

Prep Time / Cook Time

Add timing to improve clarity for cooking and for sorting/metadata.

Recipe Image

Upload or replace the featured image (JPG/PNG/GIF/WebP, max 7 MB).

  • Remove Image will clear the current photo if you want to start fresh.

Ingredients

Edit the structured list that powers analysis.

  • Columns: Amount, Unit, Ingredient.
  • + Add Ingredient to insert a new row.
  • X (red button) to remove a row you don’t need.
  • Switch to Plain Text if you prefer pasting a list; you can convert back to structured rows afterward.

Tips for accuracy

  • Use measurable amounts (e.g., g, ml, cups, tbsp, tsp).
  • Consolidate duplicate items before analyzing (e.g., combine two “1 tbsp sugar” lines).
  • Clarify variants (e.g., “whole-wheat flour” vs “flour”) if it matters nutritionally.

Instructions

Create clear, step-by-step directions for cooking.

  • Steps are numbered automatically.
  • + Add Step to append more; X to remove; Switch to Plain Text to paste bulk text.
  • Keep each step concise and action-oriented (prep → cook → finish).

Notes

Optional space for substitutions, storage tips, or serving suggestions (e.g., “Swap feta for goat cheese,” “Keeps 3 days refrigerated”).
